Massey Equine
Massey Equine is the group of equine specialist clinicians and researchers within the Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences at Massey University.
Massey Equine is responsible for offering a diagnostic and treatment service to equine owners in the equine hospital. Massey Equine is also involved in the teaching of equine subjects both within and outside the university. Members of staff are also actively involved in equine research.
Equestrian Centre / Equine High Performance Centre
The Palmerston North campus hosts the Massey University Equestrian Centre. The Centre consists of an 80m x 60m all-weather arena with jumps, 15 hectares of land divided into 21 paddocks, covered yards, and an administration and tutorial building. The arena is available for use by Massey University students and staff, and the community.
Academy of Sport
Massey Academy of Sport is the Sports Scholarship Programme for talented and elite level athletes studying at University. The Academy focuses on the development of each individual member by providing essential support services that cater to their needs
Team Massey
Through Team Massey, elite equestrians now have the chance to study at Massey while competing at the highest level. To combine study and an equestrian career, a team of experts is supporting the young riders.
Equine Education
- Equine clinical courses in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree for training as an equine veterinarian
- Equine studies subjects in the Diploma and Bachelor of AgriScience degree.
- Advanced study in equine subjects can be undertaken toward a variety of postgraduate degrees
- B.Agriscience (honours), MVSc, MVS, M Agriscience, BPhil, Ph.D.
- Presentations to equine groups and equine industry organisations through the New Zealand Equine Research Foundation supported speaker scheme
- Education for Continuing Professional Development of equine veterinarians
Equine Hospital
We are a multi-specialty referral group with expertise in surgery, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, dentistry, anaesthesia, pharmacology and emergency/critical care. We take great pride in being able to provide such a broad range of expert veterinary services across these disciplines as we have equipment and skills not commonly available in general veterinary practice.
Equine Trust
The Equine Trust is a partnership between Government, industry and Massey University and many other partners inside and outside New Zealand to assist in improving the equine industry’s future progress. The initiative aims to expand learning and research capabilities across the industry, and thereby encourage more skilled people within the industry to help it improve efficiency and solve problems.
